Moreno Valley Utility Customers Shielded from SCE Public Safety Power Shutoffs

Moreno Valley Utility (MVU) customers can rest easy knowing that, in the event of any precautionary Southern California Edison (SCE) public safety power shutoffs that affect the MVU system, the City's electric utility could switch its affected customers to another of its power circuits, which would minimize any outage.
MVU provides power to about 6,800 MoVal households and businesses, approximately 12 percent of the City's population, in the southern and eastern areas of the City.
High winds and low humidity forecast for the next few days have SCE ready to shut down various service areas or "circuits" to reduce the the risk of wildfire sparked by downed power lines. MVU's power lines are all buried underground.
MVU was recognized nationally earlier this year for its reliability. While the national average length of power outages in 2018 was a whopping 135 minutes, the average outage for MVU customers was less than eight minutes.
"We're very proud of the reliability MVU provides for its customers," said Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley.
