News Release

Moreno Valley Named a 2017 Tree City USA

For immediate release: March 13, 2018

Tree City USA

Moreno Valley has been named a 2017 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, honoring the City’s commitment to community forestry practices.

Moreno Valley is pleased to join more than 3,400 communities in the United States that have earned the Tree City USA designation.

Trees promote healthier communities by decreasing stress levels and improving moods, provide environmental benefits by filtering the air we breathe, moderate the climate, and provide habitat for wildlife. Trees also reduce energy use by providing natural cooling and they increase property values.

Cities earn the Tree City USA designation by meeting these requirements:

  • Establish a Tree Department
  • Adopt a tree care ordinance
  • Establish a community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita
  • Conduct an Arbor Day observance and adopt a Proclamation

By achieving the Tree City USA designation Moreno Valley successfully fulfills one of the objectives outlined in Momentum MoVal, the City’s Strategic Plan. The designation demonstrates the City’s commitment to beautification, community engagement, and quality of life for all of its community members.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.
