Moreno Valley Community Park to Undergo $2.6 Million Renovation

For immediate release: February 5, 2018

State-of-the-art soccer fields will be installed at one of the City's busiest parks

The Moreno Valley City Council’s investment of $2.6 million to renovate Community Park will provide state-of-the-art soccer facilities complete with specially designed synthetic turf to keep fields cooler for the more than 200,000 Moreno Valley residents and visiting athletes who compete at the park each year.

Due to its prime location, Community Park remains one of the City’s most popular sports facilities. The park’s four soccer fields are in use more than 360 days out of the year, with athletes logging more than 2,800 hours annually.

Moreno Valley Community Park is located at 13380 Frederick Street.

The soccer complex renovation will transform all four fields with professional grade synthetic turf, replacing synthetic turf which has been in place for more than a decade. The new state-of-the-art turf will feature a cool fill rubber system to create a first class experience for competitors and spectators alike.

Use of the soccer fields has dramatically increased since the original synthetic turf was installed in 2008. Synthetic turf fields offer numerous advantages over natural grass, including increasing the number of days the fields can be used since muddy conditions after rain are no longer a concern.

After a decade of nearly seven days a week use, the Moreno Valley City Council approved replacing the $2.6 million field renovation.

"We are proud to be able to provide state-of-the-art soccer fields for the hundreds of thousands of soccer players and fans who choose Moreno Valley as their preferred soccer venue," said Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez. "This project is just another way the City continues to enhance the quality of life for our residents."

All fields at Community Park will be closed beginning March 5. Users have been accommodated at other fields across the City during construction. The renovation is scheduled for completion by July.

This project also achieves several priorities included in the City’s Momentum MoVal strategic plan, including creating a positive environment for the development of Moreno Valley’s future, promoting community pride, and ensuring that needed public facilities are constructed and maintained.

The community will be invited to celebrate the project’s completion at a Grand Re-opening Ceremony this summer.
