City of Moreno Valley Hosts First Latino Film Festival and Art Walk

Film Festival/Art Walk The City of Moreno Valley is proud to host the first Latino Film Festival and accompanying Art Walk event. This event will be held on Friday, October 27th through Sunday, October 29th at the Moreno Valley Mall.

Latino Film Festival 
A variety of award-winning films will be shown throughout the weekend including feature films, documentaries, short films and animated shorts. 

A screening of Esteban, the award-winning, an uplifting film with a soundtrack by Grammy award winning Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés will be shown on the opening “Gala” night, October 27. 

The festival program features multiple award-nominated films, including El Sueño de Mara’akame (Mara‘akame’s Dream), MargaritaEl Vendedor de Orquideas (The Orchid Seller),  Todo lo Demas (Everything Else), Bellas de Noche(Beauties of the Night), and Etiqueta No Rigurosa (No Dress Code Required). The selection of animated short films includes Los Aeronautas (The Aeronauts), Ascensión (Ascension)Elena y las Sombras (Elena and the Shadows), and Taller de Corazones (The Heart Workshop). 

A special showing of short films by students from local schools will take place Sunday, October 29 from 12-1:30 p.m. before the Academy of Motion Pictures sponsors a special showing of the Ballad of Gregorio Cortez. Movie goers will have the unique opportunity to engage in a question and answer period with the film’s director, Robert Young, and film scholar Dr. Carlos Cortés following the screening.

The event will also feature short films by Moreno Valley students from Midland Elementary School, Valley View High School, and Val Verde High School. 

Cinema Culturas brings local residents this exciting opportunity to experience the magic of award-winning Latino films. Tickets for the special Gala night are available at www.cinemaculturas.com. Movie tickets are available at Harkins Theatres Moreno Valley. Animated shorts and student films are free to the public.

Moreno Valley Art Walk 
Working with Phearless Art Studio in Moreno Valley, more than 10 local artists will display their work the entire weekend, and  will be on hand to meet Moreno Valley residents. The Art Walk includes an exciting variety of works in mediums such as oils, watercolors, acrylics, and more. Artists include local favorites such as Tony LavallMaurice Howard, and Jessica Cruz.

This event will feature activities for residents of all ages. Children will be wowed by the professional face painting and balloon crafters available on Saturday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m., and Sunday from 12:00 –2:00 p.m. The Art Walk is located on the west end of the Moreno Valley Mall on the upper level.
