Moreno Valley Animal Shelter awarded $20,000 Grant from Petco Foundation

For immediate release: September 19, 2017

Petco

The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter was awarded a $20,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to support construction of a new dog play yard. Grant funds will be used for the construction of an enrichment play yard area that will benefit homeless canines cared for at the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter.

This area will provide homeless dogs with needed exercise, access to fresh air, and the ability to socialize with other dogs in supervised group activities. This will help to maintain their physical and mental well-being. Construction of the canine play yard continues the City’s efforts to increase positive outcomes for homeless pets.

The dog play yard project provides an area to:

  • Exercise pets in an outdoor, secured space
  • Allow interaction through supervised activities with shelter staff and volunteers
  • Enable shelter staff to more effectively evaluate the behavior of canines
  • More easily determine canine compatibility for adoption or transfer
  • Provide a “meet and greet” area for potential owners to interact with adoptable pets

“The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter greatly appreciates the Petco Foundation’s generous investment toward this important lifesaving project,” said Steve Fries, Moreno Valley’s Animal Services Division Manager. “We extend a special thanks to the Petco Foundation Team, and many of our local residents for their ongoing support.”

This grant award was accepted by the Moreno Valley City Council at its September 5, 2017 meeting.
