For immediate release: July 21, 2017

Fundraiser

Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez rappelled 123 feet down a seven-story office building as part of Habitat for Humanity’s “Over the Edge” fundraiser to support local veterans. Moreno Valley’s Mayor joined several other dignitaries from the region in supporting the two-day event which raised more than $48,000 to support Habitat for Humanity programs. Funds will be used to help pay for financial counseling and art therapy for veterans.

In the last 18 months, Habitat for Humanity has built homes for 12 needy families in the region, and is getting ready to break ground on 30 more homes in the next few months.

“Events like these show what a community can accomplish by coming together,” said Mayor Gutierrez. “We are bringing awareness and raising funds to help our veterans and their families find the strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter they need.”
