Youth Program Director Elected to Fill City Council Vacancy

For immediate release: June 7, 2017

Cabrera

On Tuesday, June 6, Moreno Valley voters elected Youth Program Director Ulises Cabrera to the City Council in a special election to represent District 4.

Cabrera, 22, fills the vacancy created when Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez was sworn in as the City’s first directly elected mayor on December 6, 2017. Cabrera's term will expire November 2018.

Cabrera attended Moreno Valley’s Valley View High School and holds an Associate Degree in Art from Lone Star College near Houston, Texas. He is currently furthering his higher education at Moreno Valley College.

Last year Cabrera founded SpiritLift, a Moreno Valley-based charitable organization which provides mentors for at-risk youth in the City to encourage them to find their passion in life through education.

“I’m extremely motivated and ready to start working with the youth of our City and continue to be a role model,” Cabrera said. “If I have been able to accomplish what I have at the age of 22 with an associate degree, they can do anything as well. I am committed to making our City a better place for future generations.”
