If a resident loses a pet over the 4th of July Holiday weekend, the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter will be available to assist pet owners in reclaiming their pets on the following days and times:

• Tuesday, July 5th through Friday, July 8th: 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
• Saturday, July 9th: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter will be open Friday July 1, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 2, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Animal Shelter will be closed on Sunday, July 3rd & Monday, July 4th.

Residents who have lost pets can check www.moval.org or www.petharbor.com to learn whether their pets are in the Moreno Valley shelter.  If a lost pet is located on the website, residents can click on the interest link attached to the pet’s photo; any information they enter is linked directly to their pet’s kennel card at the shelter. As soon as the shelter opens, residents are strongly encouraged to visit the Moreno Valley Animal Shelter at 14041 Elsworth Street, just one block south of Alessandro Blvd. to reclaim their pets.

Residents who find a pet can bring the pet to the shelter so the pet can be scanned for a microchip.  Residents can opt to leave the pet at the shelter or record the pet’s information in the Lost and Found listings and continue to search for the pet’s owner.

The Moreno Valley Animal Shelter urges residents to keep the safety of their pets in mind during the 4th of July festivities by taking the following precautions:

• Keep pets safe from the noise of fireworks in a quiet, sheltered, and escape proof area of your home. Resist taking Fido to loud, crowded fireworks displays.
• Microchip your pet for permanent identification and keep a current license or pet ID tag on your pet in case your pet becomes lost. Microchips are only $16 at the Animal Shelter.
• Never leave a pet alone inside a vehicle; even with windows cracked, temperatures rise quickly causing pets to die from heatstroke.
• Exercise your pet in the early morning hours when temperatures are cooler and avoid walking your pet on hot asphalt or concrete; old and overweight pets should be kept in cooled rooms.
• Provide all pets with plenty of shade and access to a fresh supply of water at all times.
• See your local veterinarian for a summer checkup, discuss methods for flea and tick control.
