Mayor Gutierrez Honors Senior Center Staff
Being a senior citizen in Moreno Valley has its perks- one of them is the exceptional service provided by City staff. Their hard work ensures a successful program that continues to grow in activities and in the number of participating seniors. Their love for Moreno Valley’s senior citizens is evident in the manner in which services are provided- with joy and dedication, creativity and respect. To recognize the noteworthy service by four key staff members, Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez praised their work at the June 21st City Council meeting with a presentation of a Mayoral Proclamation for each staff member.
“These employees plan, lead, and manage the activities and daily operations to enhance the lives of Moreno Valley’s senior citizens. Staff also provides a warm and friendly environment, which makes our seniors feel cared for and valued. We are grateful to have such a dedicated group amongst the ranks,” said Mayor Gutierrez.
The accolades were presented to Joseph Jones, Senior Center Coordinator; Maria Villalobos, Recreation Leader; Scott Nicolson, Recreation Program Leader; and Kassandra Leyva, Recreation Aide for their substantial contributions to support the City’s Senior Community Center. Collectively, they’ve been serving seniors and the City of Moreno Valley for 28 years. At the meeting, Jones acknowledged their love for the job. “We love taking care of the seniors and they take care of us in return.”
The Moreno Valley Senior Center provides several recreational and enrichment programs including group and individual fitness opportunities, crafting, painting, ceramics creation, billiards, dancing, bingo, music lessons and monthly special events. Other services include a tasty, very low cost lunch provided by Family Service Association each day, Monday through Friday at 11:30 a.m., and periodic educational classes to help keep seniors able to use technology, manage health insurance options, and a host of other helpful topics.
