Congratulations to Moreno Valley’s
2016 Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem
During a special meeting of the Moreno Valley City Council last night, December 17, 2015, Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez was sworn-in as Mayor and Council Member Jeffrey Giba was sworn-in as Mayor Pro Tem for 2016. The Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem will assume their new duties at the first regular City Council meeting on January 5, 2016. The swearing-in ceremony was well attended by more than 100 supporters and members of the community.
Comments provided by both Mayor Dr. Gutierrez and Mayor Pro Tem Giba expressed their gratitude for all of the support received by their peers and the community, as well as their commitments to moving the City forward in a spirit of cooperation and with determination.
Mayor Dr. Gutierrez pledged that he will continue “to move this City forward by working collaboratively with our Council, staff, and community, and truly focusing on the needs of our community.” His pledge included:
- A focus on job creation, business attraction, and small business advocacy;
- Strengthening public safety by identifying innovative programs and building upon successful collaborations;
- Supporting education; and
- Increasing community engagement and the solicitation of resident opinion regarding City matters.
Mayor Pro Tem Giba pledged to continue to work toward financial stability and growth, transportation improvement both locally and regionally, and direct the pursuit of innovation to grow energy resources. He indicated a desire to do more to “think outside the box,” indicating that “with innovation, technology, and education, there is no end to possibilities.”
