City Council Appoints New Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem
Swearing-In Ceremony Set for December 17th
The Moreno Valley City Council selected the 2016 Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem at the December 1 City Council Meeting. Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez will serve as the City’s last appointed Mayor with Jeffrey Giba, District 2 Council Member serving as Mayor Pro Tem. A Swearing-In Ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m., on Thursday, December 17 in the Moreno Valley Council Chamber, located at 14177 Frederick Street.
“I’m very excited about this opportunity and am ready to move ahead,” says Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Gutierrez. Having served on the City Council since September 2013, Mayor Pro Tem Dr. Gutierrez is looking forward to leading by fostering amicable relationships and building consensus. Moreover, his goals for this next year are to lead efforts in a developing a strategic plan; implementing a Summer at City Hall program for youth development and career readiness skills; increasing the use of economic incentives and promoting the Hire MoVal program to attract businesses and bring jobs; as well as providing increased support for public safety and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.
Council Member Giba is looking forward to serving in this new capacity and building upon the hard work he’s begun over the past year. In looking forward, he asserts that he is “very supportive of working with the Council on a strategic plan as well as bringing forward new land use options to build-up the foundation for a thriving future with respect to job growth and innovation.”
