Moreno Valley Park Rededication
Honoring Private Adrienne L. Mitchell

Join us Veterans Day eve, as the Moreno Valley City Council rededicates Adrienne Mitchell Memorial Park with the unveiling of a new granite plaque. The park was dedicated to Private Adrienne L. Mitchell in 1995, in honor of the ultimate sacrifice she paid for the freedoms we all enjoy in Moreno Valley and across this great nation. The ceremony will be held Tuesday, November 10th, at 4:30 p.m., at the park, which is located at 22631 Bay Avenue.

Private Mitchell was a Moreno Valley High School student who was among the first women to die in combat during the Persian Gulf War in Operation Desert Storm in February of 1991. She is interred at Riverside National Cemetery.

This summer, it was reported that the plaque honoring Private Mitchell was missing. As Adrienne Mitchell Memorial Park is located in District 5, Council Member D. LaDonna Jempson worked with the Parks and Community Services Department to ensure the replacement of the stolen plaque.

Acknowledging that the brief park rededication some 20 years later is likely to be bitter sweet for family and old friends still living in Moreno Valley, the City of Moreno Valley is proud of Private Mitchell’s service and sacrifice and is honored to rededicate the park and unveil the new plaque.
