Full Westbound Closures on State Route 60
for Bridge Repair at Theodore Street

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will resume work on the damaged bridge on westbound State Route 60 (SR-60) at Theodore Street this week. The $2 million emergency project was awarded to Skanska USA, Inc. to repair damage to the overpass after an excavator being hauled on a flatbed truck hit the bridge and damaged two girders in January 2015.

The project was originally scheduled to begin in March, but due to the discovery of nesting migratory birds, Say's Phoebes - a federally protected bird, repairs were halted until the birds and their hatchlings had vacated the nests. The nests are now empty and the repair work can go forward.

The contractor will begin night work on Monday, August 24, which will require alternating lane closures from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Monday through Friday until the project is completed by fall 2015, weather permitting.

Several nights of bridge work will require full closure of westbound SR 60. The full closures will begin on Tuesday, August 25 and continue weeknights through Monday, August 31. The full closures will take place between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. in addition to closure of the westbound Theodore Street on and off ramps and the overpass. Detours will be posted.
