Moreno Valley Leaders Take Oath of Office
Owings, Baca to Lead City Council in 2014
Moreno Valley Mayor Tom Owings and Mayor Pro Tem Victoria Baca assumed their leadership roles during a Swearing-In Ceremony on Tuesday, January 7th at City Hall. Ms. Baca becomes the City’s first Hispanic Female to serve as Mayor Pro Tem; Mr. Owings began his second term as Mayor.
In his comments before a standing room only crowd at City Hall, Mayor Owings reviewed several of the City Council’s major accomplishments during 2013:
- Balancing the City’s budget for two successive years;
- Bringing more than 2,000 jobs to the City by attracting Aldi Foods, Amazon, Deckers Outdoor and a soon-to-be announced Fortune 500 corporation;
- Restoring 7-day service at the Library, tripling the book budget and saving $1.3 million via a public-private partnership.
As a job creator by trade with 35 years in private enterprise, as well as a husband/father/grandfather, the Mayor asserted his commitment to serve the citizens of Moreno Valley with care and revealed his 2014 priorities to include job creation, expanding opportunity for all residents, and cost efficient delivery of first-rate City services.
In her comments, Mayor Pro Tem Baca stressed her love for the City of Moreno Valley and pledged to “work hard to help make the great City of Moreno Valley be an even better place to live, work, and play.” The Mayor Pro Tem cited her partnership with residents of the Edgemont area to address longstanding needs. She also announced her plans to continue a cooperative effort with Box Springs Mutual Water Company as they work toward securing the $15 million required to ensure a safe, reliable water delivery system for that area.
