Moreno Valley Police Department Enhances Public Safety
with a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint

The Moreno Valley Police Department will conduct a DUI / Driver’s License Checkpoint on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at an undisclosed location within the city limits between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.

Officers at the Checkpoint will be asking drivers to produce their Driver’s Licenses and will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. Drivers found to be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can expect jail, driver’s license suspension, insurance rate increases, fines, fees, DUI classes, court probation and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

All too often, members of our community are injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. This DUI / Driver’s License Checkpoint is provided as an effort to prevent the tragic deaths and catastrophic injuries associated with impaired driving, as well as to ensure that drivers have a valid driver’s license. A major component of these checkpoints is to increase awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and to encourage the use of sober designated drivers.

Checkpoint locations are selected to provide the greatest opportunity for deterring drunk and drugged driving while also ensuring the safety of officers and the public. Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). According to the NHTSA, checkpoints have proven to be the most effective DUI enforcement strategy, while also yielding the considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.
