Essay Contest Winners:
Why We Celebrate July 4th?

As part of the July 4th Celebration, the City of Moreno Valley and the Moreno Valley Unified School District conducted the First Annual Moreno Valley Essay Contest for students grades 2nd through 5th, 6th through 8th, and 9th through 12th. The City is pleased to announce the Essay Contest Winners below.

Students were encouraged to write essays based on the history of Independence Day as a reminder of what our founders went through to make it possible for all Americans to have the liberty, freedom and ability to pursue happiness. The essays were evaluated based on Creativity, Question Development, Clarity of ideas, and Mechanics (grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structural, etc.).

Winners of the Essay Contest include:

Kolani Smith: 3rd Grade, Bear Valley Elementary
Nicholas Ross: 5th Grade, North Ridge Elementary
Mobenul Haq: 7th Grade, Badger Springs Middle School
Patrick Samones: 10th Grade, Moreno Valley High School

The winners of the Essay Contest will be presented awards at the July 4th Family Fun Fest Celebration. Thank you to Dr. Judy D. White and her staff for hosting the Essay Contest and congratulations to the winners!
